Ceres High boys, girls win head-to-head matchup with Central Valley

Ceres High School swept crosstown-rival Central Valley during Thursday's Western Athletic Conference varsity track and field dual meet.

The visiting Bulldogs won the boys clash 78-58 and moved into a tie for third-place with the Hawks.

Ceres High improved to 3-3 in the WAC standings.

Central Valley dropped to 3-3.

"It was good competition," Hawks standout sprinter Ja'Quan Gardner said.

Tristan Dray, Moises Rocha, Gabriel Solis, Caden Johnson, Judas Chavarin, Mark Rodriguez and John McElwain led the Bulldogs.

Dray placed first in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Rocha placed first in the 800 (2:20).

Solis placed first in the 400 (55.00).

Johnson placed first in the high jump (5-6) and triple jump.

Chavarin placed first in the 1,600 (5:03) and second in the 800 (2:22) and pole vault (9-0).

Rodriguez placed second in the discus (110-7).

McElwain placed third in the discus (102-10).

Gardner, Kenneth Padilla, Jose Uribe, Ben Saldana, Carlos Murillo, Milton Uti, Jordan Sek, Miguel Rodriguez, Roger Khuon, Marcus Clark, Roberto Aguilar, Alan Keefe, Joaquin Garcia, Francisco Gradilla and Angelo Bermudez led the Hawks.

Gardner placed first in the 100 (11.62).

Padilla placed first in the pole vault (10-0).

Uribe placed first in the discus (120-91/2).

Saldana placed first in the 3,200 and second in the 1,600 (5:07).

Murillo placed second in the 3,200.

Uti placed second in the triple jump.

Sek placed second in the high jump (5-6) and third in the triple jump.

Rodriguez placed second in the 400 (57.90).

Khuon placed second in the 100 (11.96).

Clark placed third in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Aguilar placed third in the 3,200 and 1,600 (5:15).

Keefe placed third in the high jump (5-2).

Garcia placed third in the 800 (2:25).

Gradilla placed third in the 400 (60.56).

Bermudez placed third in the 100 (11.97).

Bryce Ford, Cecilia Carretero, Colleen Mauga, Gykisha Smith, Karina Ruiz, Perla Vargas and Nichole Parker propelled Ceres High's girls team to a 63-51 victory over Central Valley.

Ford placed first in the 100 hurdles (16.81) and 300 hurdles (47.88) for the second-place Bulldogs (5-1).

Carretero placed first in the 1,600 (6:02) and 800 (2:41).

Mauga placed first in the discus (87-0).

Smith placed second in the 100 (13.12) and 100 hurdles (17.68).

Ruiz placed second in the 800 (2:24) and 400 (1:10).

Vargas placed third in the 200 (30.59).

Parker placed third in the discus (74-31/2).

Heaven Simon placed first in the 200 (28.74) and 400 (64.69), and second in the 300 hurdles (49.75) for the fifth-place Hawks (2-4).

Sherlyn Hernandez placed first in the 100 (12.96) and second in the 200 (29.28).

Citlalli Soltero placed second in the 1,600 (6:50).

Crystal Guzman placed second in the discus (80-8).

Clarissa Ortega placed third in the 100 hurdles (20.50) and 300 hurdles (59.31).

Angel Simon placed third in the 100 (14.05).
