Ceres High's varsity baseball program fell one victory shy of claiming the title at its home tournament during spring break.

The Bulldogs won three of four games en route to a runner-up finish at the Art McRae Easter Tournament.

Ceres High had a 17-5 overall record and sat in second place in the Western Athletic Conference standings (7-3) as of Tuesday morning.

Limited to just three hits, Ceres High lost 7-1 to Kimball in the finals on Thursday.

Bulldog Ismael Ontiveros batted 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Zach Kommavong batted 1-for-2 with one double and one run.

The Bulldogs scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning.

Ceres High allowed one run in the top of the first inning, and three in both the third and sixth.

The Bulldogs used a total of three pitchers during the game, including Ontiveros, Blane Abeyta and Ricky Lopez.

Ontiveros, Ceres High's starter, gave up three earned runs and seven hits with one strikeout and one walk in three innings.

Abeyta surrendered three earned runs and two hits with three strikeouts and two walks in three innings.

Lopez yielded no earned runs and no hits with one strikeout and no walks in one inning.

The Jaguars snapped the Bulldogs' seven-game winning streak.

Ceres High stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and held on for a 5-3 win over Johansen on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs pounded 13 hits.

Abeyta batted 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs.

Lopez batted 4-for-4 with one RBI and one run.

Dalton Durossette and Adrian Lujan both batted 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Ontiveros batted 2-for-3 with one run.

Brock DeWitt batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Durossette started at pitcher.

Dalton had five strikeouts and two walks in three innings.

He yielded no earned runs and three hits.

Lopez totaled three strikeouts and two walks in two innings.

Ricky allowed no runs and one hit.

Eric Davis surrendered no runs and two hits in one inning.

Kommavong gave up run and two hits with one strikeout and no walks in one inning.

Ceres High collected 11 hits during Wednesday's 14-3 mercy-rule blowout of Modesto Christian.

Austin Schmidt batted 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.

Lujan batted 2-for-2 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs.

Kommavong batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Lopez, Davis and Ontiveros all batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs.

Abeyta batted 0-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Steven Brown batted 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Durossette batted 1-for-3 with one run.

DeWitt scored once.

The Bulldogs seized control by tallying 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Ceres High starting pitcher Adrian Magdaleno allowed one earned run and four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Ceres High scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and added five in the third on its way to topping Waterford 9-2 on April 17.

Abeyta turned in near-perfect performance on the mound.

Blane had 10 strikeouts and no walks over five innings.

He allowed just one hit.

Durossette batted 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run.

DeWitt batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Brown batted 0-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.

Kommavong batted 2-for-3 with two runs.

Lopez batted 1-for-2 with two runs.

Ontiveros batted 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Magdaleno scored twice.

Abeyta drove in one run.

Davis doubled.

Ceres High will play Pacheco (9-11-1, 3-7) twice this week.

The Bulldogs will host the Panthers tomorrow at 4 p.m.
