Ceres High’s track and field program experienced individual and team success while competing at the Hal Clements Invitational on April 22 at Bret Harte.

Ceres High’s boys placed third with a team score of 68.

Ripon (83) and Argonaut (71) took first and second, respectively.

Faiva Tuakalau finished second in the shot put and 10th in the discus.

Cesar Bolanos Aleman finished second in the 800 and 14th in the 400.

Lebron Stallworth finished third in the high jump and fourth in the 100.

Manny Mendoza finished third in the 400 and eighth in the 200.

Dakota Adams finished fifth in the pole vault, 10th in the triple jump and 13th in the long jump.

Daniel Baker finished sixth in the discus.

Ricky Stanley finished sixth in the 110 hurdles and 20th in the 100.

Aaron Lopez finished seventh in the 800 and 13th in the 1,600.

Bryan Gallardo finished eighth in the discus.

Jesus Madrigal finished eighth in the pole vault.

Alejandro Plantillas Rosas finished eighth in the pole vault, ninth in the 800 and 18th in the 1,600.

Angel Palma finished 11th in the shot put.

Juan Carrillo finished 12th in the shot put.

Manuel Mendoza finished 16th in the long jump and 22nd in the 200.

Ceres High’s 4x100 relay team of Tarrell Lee-Gill, Ricky Stanley, Manny Mendoza and AJ Brown finished second.

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Stanley, Cesar Bolanos Aleman, Aaron Lopez and Manny Mendoza finished second.

Ceres High’s 4x100 throwers relay of Daniel Baker, Bryan Gallardo, Angel Palma and Faiva Tuakalau finished fifth.

Ceres High’s girls placed seventh with a team score of 44.

Sonora (63), Bret Harte (60) and Ripon (56) took first, second and third, respectively.

Jillian Mande finished fourth in the discus and 13th in the shot put.

Evelyn Alvarez finished fifth in the 3,200 and 13th in the 1,600.

Abigayil Prado finished sixth in the long jump and 12th in the 100.

Jayda Bryant finished sixth in the 100 hurdles, seventh in the 300 hurdles and 24th in the 100.

Giulia Puonzo finished seventh in the 800 and 1,600.

Lilly Blevins finished seventh in the shot put and eighth in the discus.

Monica Cendejas finished eighth in the triple jump and 11th in the long jump

Jelaine Esguerra finished eighth in the 200 and 13th in the 100.

Serena Chalk finished ninth in the shot put.

Liset Renteria finished 15th in the long jump and 19th in the 200.

Carmen Arce finished 17th in the 200.

Izabella Jacquez finished 17th in the discus.

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Giulia Puonzo, Leilah Elsumeri, Itzel Contreras and Jazmyne Arendt finished first.

Ceres High’s 4x100 throwers relay of Lilly Blevins, Jillian Mande, Serena Chalk and Izabella Jacquez finished second.


WAC finale

Ceres High’s track and field program swept Grace Davis during the final week of the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet season on Thursday at Johansen.

The Bulldogs won thanks in large part to having a larger roster size.

“We have more kids,” head coach Brett Johnson said. “They didn’t have depth. Our kids still had to go out and perform.”

Ceres High’s boys team compiled a 5-2 record versus WAC opponents this spring.

Bulldog Tre Karriem placed first in the long jump and triple jump against the Spartans.

Jaiden Boss placed first in the 110 hurdles.

Manny Mendoza placed first in the 400 and second in the long jump.

Von Tigner placed second in the long jump and triple jump.

Lebron Stallworth placed second in the high jump.

David Rodriguez-Ochoa placed second in the 110 hurdles.

Yahir Ruiz placed third in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Sergio Torres placed fourth in the 3,200.

Dakota Adams placed fourth in the triple jump.

Ceres High’s girls team posted a 4-3 record against WAC competition.

“Our girls worked really hard,” Johnson said. “I saw a lot of personal growth. I can’t complain.”

Bulldog Jillian Mande placed first in the discus versus the Spartans.

Monica Cendejas placed first in the triple jump and second in the long jump.

Lilly Blevins placed second in the discus.

Alexa Sandoval placed third in the discus.

Serena Chalk placed fourth in the discus.

The Bulldogs will compete at the WAC Finals today at Pacheco High School.


Hawks medal

The members of Central Valley’s track and field program raced at the German Fernandez Distance Carnival this past month.

The meet was held under the lights on April 21 at Riverbank High School’s football stadium.

Every athlete that posted a personal record (PR) in an individual event received a medal.

The top 3 finishers in each event received a medal.

“It was a cool experience,” Hawks’ head coach Michael Mrgudic said. “A really nice thing about this meet is they gave PR medals. Everyone did well. It was a fun night.”

In the varsity girls division, Hawk Lliria Lira Trinidad placed 24th in the 800 with a personal-best time of 2:59.06.

Jasmin Madriz placed 27th in the 800 in a personal-best time (3:09.57).

Vanessa Perez placed 29th in the 800 in a personal-best time (3:12.62).

In the varsity boys division, Central Valley’s Kevin Garcia placed 38th in the 800 (2:33.08) and 63rd in the 1,600 (5:42.08). He set personal records in both events.

LaDre Sengsoury placed 39th in the 800 (2:34.04) and 69th in the 1,600 (5:53.09).

In the frosh-soph boys division, Hawk Alexis Landa placed third in the 800 (2:17.29) and fifth in the 1,600 (4:55.77).

Daniel Leon placed 20th in the 800 (2:31.51).

Jackson Stokes placed 27th in the 1,600 (5:33.92).

Frankie Klino placed 27th in the 800 (2:33.61) and 28th in the 1,600 (5:34.31).

Juan Sanchez placed 28th in the 800 in a personal-best time (2:34.20).

Joshua Michelena placed 31st in the 800 (2:35.25) and 45th in the 1,600. He recorded personal-best times during both races.

Antonio Burgos placed 31st in the 1,600 (5:36.79).

Mathew Ontiveroz placed 34th in the 800 in a personal-best time (2:37.76).

Xavier Banta placed 36th in the 800 in a personal-best time (2:39.78).

Emanuel Barajas placed 38th in the 800 in a personal-best time (2:40.78) and 42nd in the 1,600 (5:50.26).

Javier Armas placed 40th in the 800 in a personal-best time (2:43.03).

Marco Coria placed 46th in the 800 in a personal-best time (2:52.94) and 55th in the 1,600 (6:24.64).

Samuel Carrasco placed 48th in the 800 in a personal-best time (3:08.96).

In the frosh-soph girls division, Central Valley’s Mariana Campos placed ninth in the 800 (2:48.24) and 1,600 (6:18.15).

Eliana Tamayo placed 14th in the 800 in a personal-best time (2:54.36).

Tarnjot Kaur placed 23rd in the 800 in a personal-best time (3:03).

Alyssa Ontiveroz placed 24th in the 1,600 (6:55.63) and 25th in the 800 (3:05.68).

Keilany Torres placed 29th in the 1,600 in a personal-best time (7:12.52) and 34th in the 800 (3:15.88).

Milliana Rios placed 35th in the 800 (3:16.99).

Daisy Garcia placed 44th in the 1,600 in a season-record time (8:16.19) and 45th in the 800 in a personal-best time (3:41.84).

Central Valley will compete at the Central California Conference Finals today at Golden Valley.
