CV athletes turn in standout performances

Central Valley boys track and field standout Chase Bogart took eighth in the 800 and 13th in the 1,600 at the CCC’s third cluster meet on April 17 in Atwater.

The members of Central Valley High School’s track and field program turned in respectable performances at the Central California Conference’s third cluster meet on April 17 in Atwater.

“Individually, we’re doing pretty well,” head coach Veronica Moreno said. “We’ve had quite a few athletes improve throughout the season.”

Javier Cuevas Sanchez led Central Valley’s boys team, which finished seventh in the team standings (23 points).

Cuevas Sanchez placed second in the pole vault. 

He cleared a personal-best 10 feet, 6 inches.

Cuevas Sanchez also placed fifth in the long jump (17-10).

Benjamin Barajas placed fifth in the discus (112-10).

Christian Balderas placed sixth in the 3,200 (10:35) and 11th in the 1,600 (4:51).

Patric Senesom placed sixth in the 110 hurdles (17.68) and eighth in the 300 hurdles (46.66).

Chase Bogart placed eighth in the 800 (2:14) and 13th in the 1,600 (5:05).

Uriel Barajas set a personal record while placing 10th in the shot put (38-2). He placed 16th in the discus (91-4).

Alejandro Orozco placed 10th in the 800 (2:19), 13th in the 3,200 (12:27), 15th in the long jump (15-3) and 17th in the 1,600 (5:11).

Jada Vann led Central Valley’s girls team, which finished seventh in team scoring (4 points). 

Vann placed fifth in the 100 hurdles (20.42) and 15th in the 100 (13.79).

She set a personal record in the 100.

Anusha Kumar placed 10th in both the high jump (4-4) and 100 hurdles (22.69).

Isabella Andres set personal records while placing 11th in the 1,600 (6:00) and 15th in the discus (64-11).

Nia Carraway placed 12th in the shot put (25-10) and 19th in the discus (54-1).

Itzayhana Yepez Ochoa placed 13th in the 400 (1:11).

Andrea Cortes placed 13th in the discus (69-43) and 14th in the shot put (24-3).

Adriana Huaracha led Central Valley’s junior-varsity girls team with a first-place finish in the 400 (1:06). She also placed second in the 200 (29.02) and 100 (13.87). Huaracha posted career-best times in the 400 and 100.

Vanessa Ramirez placed first in the 300 hurdles (1:07).

Yajandy Mendoza Rosales placed first in the long jump (13-11).

Priscilla Garcia placed third in the 400 (1:08), fifth in the 100 (14.41) and seventh in the 200 (30.47). She set personal records in both the 400 and 100.

Bernice Montoya Aguilar placed fourth in the shot put (23-0).

Yamily Zaragoza set personal records while placing fifth in the shot put (22-8) and ninth in the 100.

Guadalupe Gonzalez Zepeda set a personal record while placing ninth in the 400 (1:17).

Alyssa Jimenez set a personal record while placing 10th in the 100 (14.82).

Central Valley’s JV girls (83 points) finished second in the team standings.

Elijah DeLeon led Central Valley’s sixth-place junior-varsity boys (22 points). 

He placed second in the high jump (4-8) and third in the 200 (24.56).

Kaleb La Fountain placed seventh in the discus (90-2) and ninth in the shot put (34-51/2). He set a personal record in the shot put.

Michael De La Cruz set a personal record while placing eighth in the 3,200 (12:42).

David Cuevas Sanchez placed ninth in the 800 (2:27.40).

Braulio Arellano set a personal record while placing 10th in the 100 (13-41/2).
