Central Valley's varsity girls wrestling team tasted defeat for the first time during the 2018 Western Athletic Conference dual-meet season this past week.
The Hawks dropped into a three-way tie for first place in the WAC standings after losing by the slimmest of margins, 43-42, to the host Livingston Wolves on Thursday.
Livingston was awarded the team victory after battling to a 42-42 draw with Central Valley.
"It was a tie," Hawks coach Rob Beckhart said. "It went to criteria. They won more matches than we did. We should have been able to take care of Livingston. We made some mistakes."
Central Valley fell to 3-1 in the WAC.
Livingston improved to 3-1.
"We should have won," Central Valley junior Brianna Quiroz said. "We had a bad day."
Quiroz, Vanessa Contreras, Ellena Markham, Carla Martinez, Nayeli Pelayo, Alexis Ramirez and Natalia Torres all collected individual victories versus the Wolves.
Contreras won by pin (0:43) against Jordan Brewer at 101 pounds.
Markham won by pin (4:24) against Diosely Martinez at 121 pounds.
Martinez won by pin (5:46) against Jaslit Soria at 137 pounds.
Quiroz (150s), Nayeli Pelayo (235s), Alexis Ramirez (160s) and Natalia Torres (170s) all won by forfeit versus the Wolves.
Central Valley's Aryanna Jimenez lost by pin (5:44) to Livingston's Charla Baptista at 116 pounds.
Esther Esceverri lost by pin (2:54) to Ariana Walker at 143 pounds.
Isabella Pelayo lost by pin (2:47) to Myriam Lopez at 131 pounds.
Julia Avila lost by pin (1:57) to Angelique Baptista at 111 pounds.
Emily Mendoza lost by pin (1:10) to Alondra Zamora at 126 pounds.
Olivia Chaboya lost by pin (0:46) to Ashlan Correia at 189 pounds.
Central Valley forfeited its 106-pound match to Isabel Ramos.
Visiting Central Valley improved to 3-1 in the WAC following its 48-24 triumph over Patterson on Jan. 23.
Quiroz won by pin (2:46) against Brisa Solis at 150 pounds.
Markham won by pin (3:27) against Karina Chavez at 121 pounds.
Jimenez (116s), Mendoza (126s), Ramirez (170s), Chaboya (189s), Isabella Pelayo (137s) and Noelia Barron (111s) all won by forfeit.
Esceverri lost by pin (5:50) to Aurora Gonzalez at 143 pounds.
Nayeli Pelayo lost by pin (5:03) to Leilani Tagata at 235 pounds.
Contreras lost by pin (2:29) to Erika Reynoso at 101 pounds.
Central Valley lost by forfeit to Libby Juarez at 106 pounds.
There were double forfeits at 131 and 160 pounds.
Central Valley will close out the WAC dual-meet season today.
The Hawks will host the crosstown-rival Ceres High Bulldogs.
"If we win and Los Banos beats Pacheco, we'll be the league champs," Beckhart said.
