Hawks fall out of softball playoff contention

Vying for its first-ever playoff berth in its 12-year history, Central Valley's varsity softball team dropped out of contention this past week.

The Hawks suffered three losses and fell to third place in the Western Athletic Conference.

Central Valley (2-6) trails Ceres High (7-1), Los Banos (5-3), Patterson (5-3) and Pacheco (5-3) in the WAC standings.

The Hawks lost 14-3 to second-place Pacheco on Friday in Ceres.

Central Valley struck out eight times on offense.

The Hawks totaled six hits.

Scarlett Lloyd batted 2-for-3 with one double, one run and one stolen base.

Nayeli Pelayo batted 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBIs.

Lizbeth Silva batted 1-for-4 with one RBI, one run and one stolen base.

Megan McElroy chipped in with one run, one walk and one stolen base.

Autianna Baxter had one double and one stolen base.

Brianna Quiroz singled.

Gaby Bonales walked twice.

Alyssa Maeyama had one walk and one stolen base.

Second-place Los Banos edged visiting Central Valley 3-2 on Wednesday.

Maeyama batted 1-for-3 with one triple, one RBI and one stolen base.

Pelayo batted 1-for-3 with one double, one RBI and one stolen base.

Lloyd batted 1-for-3 with one run, one walk and three stolen bases.

Baxter batted 0-for-2 with one run, one walk and one stolen base.

Quiroz collected two singles.

Bonales, McElroy and Kaydee Peterman all walked once.

Central Valley pounded 10 hits during its 11-6 loss to second-place Patterson on April 24.

Pelayo batted 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, three runs, one walk and one stolen base.

Lloyd batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Quiroz batted 3-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base.

Baxter and Peterman both batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Giuliana Gutierrez scored and walked once.

McElroy singled.

The top three teams in the WAC qualify for the playoffs.

Ceres High locked up a postseason berth last week.

Los Banos, Patterson and Pacheco remained in the hunt.

Central Valley (10-11) will play its final two conference games this week.

The Hawks will host Patterson today and Ceres High on Friday at 4 p.m.
