Lady swimmers sweep Falcons

The Ceres High girls swimming team defeated Atwater 102-77 in Ceres on Thursday.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 in the Central California Conference standings, while the Falcons fell to 1-2 in league.

Led by Katie Griffith, Sarah Maher, Kirena Duffell and Lauren Griffen, Ceres won six individual events and one relay.

Griffith won the 200 IM in 2:27.77 and 100 fly in 1:06.27.

"She just puts so much time and effort into swimming," said Ceres coach Sue Garcia. "It definitely pays off.

Maher won the 50 free in 27.83 seconds.

Tristin Long won the 500 free in 6:25.99.

Kirena Duffel won the 100 back in 1:17.26.

Jamie Lenz won the 100 breast in 1:18.72.

Duffell, Lenz, Griffith and Maher won the 200 medley relay in 2:07.04.

The Bulldogs also placed second four times.

Kelli Farrell, Leslie Helm, Griffen and Amber Castino placed second in the 200 medley relay in 2:16.48.

Griffith, Griffen, Amanda Arrollo and Maher placed second in the 200 free relay in 1:54.59.

Arrollo, Duffel, Griffen and Maher placed second in the 400 free relay in 4:24.15.

Helm placed second in the 100 breast in 1:23.93.

Divers Bailey Macarthur and Duffell accounted for 10 of the Bulldogs' points.

Ceres 111, Atwater 58

The JV girls swimming team won 10 of 11 events.

Sarah Pullman won the 50 free in 30.77 seconds and 100 free in 1:09.75.

Sam Walters won the 200 free in 2:26.35.

Jessica Johnson won the 500 free in 7:12.18.

Tina Currie won the 50 fly in 32.37 seconds.

Kamie Machado won the 100 back in 1:23.57.

Sarah Willems won the 100 breast in 1:35.42.

Johnson, Pullman, Monica Rucker and Currie won the 200 medley relay in 2:24.93.

Hannah Maher, Rucker, Currie and Pullman won the 200 free relay in 2:05.69.
