Coach Bryan Harden doesn't consider Thursday's win over second-place Beyer an upset.

"We're a stronger team," said Ceres coach Bryan Harden.

With Amanda Guajardo, Ashlee Moring, Haylee Adrian and Melissa Gonzales leading the way, the Bulldogs edged the Patriots 3-2 in Modesto.

The victory helped Ceres remain in fourth place in the Modesto Metro Conference at 5-7.

The Patriots fell to 8-4 in the league standings.

The Bulldogs won two of three singles and one of two doubles matches.

Amanda Guajardo beat Sloane Ardis 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 singles play.

"She took charge in the second set and put her away," Harden said.

Ashlee Moring beat Katrina Nelson 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.

"Katrina is a good player but it didn't matter," Harden said. "Ashlee played real well."

Haylee Adrian and Melissa Gonzales beat April Rowan and Grace Van Hoy via injury default in No. 2 doubles play.

Beyer's duo retired before the first set was completed. Ceres battled back from a 2-5 deficit and led 6-5.

"We would have won that match," Harden said.

Logan Harden lost 6-3, 6-0 to Claire Whiteside in No. 3 singles play.

"Logan just didn't have the patience to stay with it," Bryan said.

Kamie Machado and Karolina Munzova lost 6-3, 6-4 to Kelly Gabrielson and Catherine Lee in No. 2 doubles play.

"I was pleased with the way they played," Harden said. "The problem is they got off to a really slow start and didn't have enough time to recover from it."

Ceres tops Johansen

The Bulldogs beat the Vikings 4-1 at Johansen High School on Monday.

"We won two of three against Johansen (this season)," Harden said. "I think we should have taken all three."

Ceres won two of three singles and both doubles matches during the third meeting. Three of the five matches went five three sets.

Guajardo defeated Nikole MacKenzie 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in No. 1 singles play.

Moring defeated Shalita Willis 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, in No. 2 singles play.

"They (Ashlee and Amanda) both came back to win their matches," Harden said.

Machado and Munzova defeated Jennifer Ramirez and Jessica Barrientos 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles play.

Adrian and Gonzales defeated Rebecca Brand and Terri Ryan 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles play.

"Both doubles played really well," Harden said. "Melissa and Haylee dominated. Kamie and Karolina battled."
