Warriors win crosstown meet

The members of Mae Hensley Jr. High School's wrestling team wore new singlets during their crosstown showdown with Blaker-Kinser.

The visiting Warriors exacted revenge with a 15-10 victory over the Sharks in front of a loud and large crowd on Tuesday, March 22.

Mae Hensley lost to Blaker-Kinser last year.

"I knew we would do well," Warriors coach Steve Festa said. "The kids were real hyped and focused. We won the first 10 matches. We dominated."

Bruno de la Torres (110 pounds), Diego Sanchez (115s), Drake Anderson (140s) and Rudy Gonzalez (190s) all won by first-round pin.

Nathan Stone (110s) won by second-round pin.

Brendon Ormonde (130s) and Adrian Torres (190s) both won by third-round pin.

Micah Young (85s) won by technical fall (15-0).

Demetrie Aburto (105s) won by major decision (11-2).

Jonathon Rodriguez (105s) won by decision (9-3).

Alex Lopez (115s) won by decision (6-1).

Triston Partida (105s) won by decision (7-2).

Ricardo Robles (110s) won by decision (7-2).

Justin Lewis (100s) won by decision (4-0).

Deontray Smith (190s) won by decision (6-4).

"We were prepared," Festa said. "We scrimmaged against them earlier in the year."

Abel Garcia (125s), Eric Arango (160s), Joaquin Garcia (160)s, Andrew Serratos (190s), Andrew Brekke (110s), Jesus Lopez (160s), Lewis Torres (140s), Adrian Perez (150s), Jayden Garcia (160s) and David Jimenez (160s) led Blaker-Kinser.

Arango, Serratos, Abel Garcia and Joaquin Garcia won by first-round pin.

Brekke and Lopez won by second-round pin.

Torres (8-2), Perez (6-0), Jimenez (4-3) and Jayden Garcia (4-1) won by decision.

The Warriors (5-3) closed out the 2011 campaign with a 14-12 win over Escalon's El Portal Middle School on March 29.

"We ended the season with a winning record," Festa said. "The kids worked very hard."
