A 23-year-old Turlock driver who fled the scene of a four-vehicle crash at Whitmore Avenue and Mitchell Road Thursday evening was later captured and arrested.

Three people were injured and sent to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries in the 9:10 p.m. crash.

Police arrived and learned that one of the four vehicles fled the scene but dropped a license plate to a Ford Expedition registered to a Turlock driver. Officers began a search for the suspect and found it at a service station near Keyes Road and Golden State Blvd. The driver, Juan Ortiz, 23, of Turlock admitted being in the crash and leaving the scene.

Ortiz was booked for felony hit-and-run causing injury and driving without a driver’s license.
