STOCKTON MAN JAILED FOR EVADING CERES OFFICER

A 25-year-old Stockton man was arrested Sunday morning, April 3 after he allegedly fled from a Ceres Police officer trying to pull him over for committing vehicle code violations.

At approximately 4:42 a.m., Ceres Police Officer Greg Houser was patrolling the area of Whitmore and Rose avenues when he saw Adam Guthery commit unlawful moves in a Chevy Camaro. When the officer attempted to pull over Guthery he made several evasive turns, failing to stop at stop signs while also traveling well above the speed limit. Officer Houser lost visual contact and terminated the pursuit but within minutes saw the vehicle in the area of Moffett and Whitmore avenues and attempted another traffic stop. Guthery fled again and after another short pursuit, yielded in the area of Sixth Street and Whitmore Avenue.

Guthery was arrested for evading police in a vehicle and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.

CERES MAN ARRESTED FOR DUI, HIT-AND-RUN

Easter Sunday was not a good day for 30-year-old Ceres resident Thomas Beltran who was arrested on a number of charges after leading police on a chase that ended in a crash into a building.

At 11:16 p.m., Ceres Police Officer Romy McClain was patrolling the area of Mitchell Road and Whitmore Avenue when he attempted to stop Beltran for vehicle code violations in a Dodge Challenger. Beltran continued but finally yielded in the 1700 block of Mitchell Road. As soon as Officer McClain got out of his patrol vehicle, the Beltran accelerated on northbound Mitchell Road. He attempted to make a westbound turn onto Hatch Road but lost control of the vehicle and collided into a vacant KFC/A&W building at 1467 Mitchell Road. Beltran jumped out of the Dodge and attempted to run away but was caught by McClain.

While arresting Beltran, Officer McClain detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Beltran became combative so Officer McClain was unable to administer field sobriety tests.
