A Keyes man with three prior DUI convictions was once again picked up by police Wednesday, June 6 when police saw him swerving on westbound Hatch Road.

Sgt. Vince Hooper was driving down Hatch Road from Central Avenue at 11:54 p.m. when he got behind a gold-colored Ford Explorer. He pulled over the driver, Sergio Sanchez, 26, of Keyes, on Richland Avenue north of Hatch Road.

Sgt. Hooper immediately saw signs of intoxication as well as an open 12-ounce can of beer in the cup holder. Sanchez said he had not been drinking but he failed a field sobriety test. After his arrest for DUI, Sanchez provided a breath sample which resulted in a 0.14 percent blood alcohol content, nearly double the legal limit.

Sanchez had three previous DUI convictions, with the first in 2012. Based upon the review of the prior convictions, the new arrest would be the fourth in the last six years making this DUI a felony. Sanchez also had a suspended license for DUI. Sanchez was booked on charges of felony DUI and driving on a suspended license.
