A Ceres teenager who has had numerous run-ins with police once again found himself booked into the County Jail Tuesday, Feb. 21, this time for stealing from a store.

Police said that at 3:38 p.m. Tyler Underwood, 18, entered the Country Market at 2147 Pine Street and was seen stuffing three bags of chips, three packets of candy and a soda bottle under his shirt. The store clerk tried to stop Underwood as he ran to the front door. The store clerk began to remove the items from under his shirt but Underwood physically pushed the clerk away with force that qualified the otherwise petty theft as a robbery. As the suspect began to run around the store he encountered a Ceres police officer who had heard the radio broadcast of a robbery in progress at the market.

Underwood was booked into the County Jail for robbery and the $16.41 in items were returned to the store.

Underwood has a criminal record that includes arrests for vandalism in December, residential burglary in August.
