Alanis in a rare position: unopposed in a state dominated by Democrats
• Republican reads that as a major vote of public confidence

It’s a rare thing for a Republican in California to run unopposed in heavily Democrat populated California so state Assemblyman Juan Alanis is considering that as a vote of public confidence that he’s doing a great job.

In a press release sent out by his office, Alanis feels securing a seat early in the election season proves that his bipartisan focus and consensus-building leadership style has delivered results over his first two terms in office.

“In this day and in this divisive political climate, receiving the nod from my constituents to run unopposed for re-election to represent the 22nd Assembly District for a third term is truly an honor,” said Alanis, who is the only partisan candidate to be unopposed this election year in a California district that has more voter registration from the opposite party than his own. “This vote of confidence from the people of Stanislaus and Merced counties is not something I take lightly. It reflects the trust our community has placed in me to continue delivering results in Sacramento. I will continue to fight as hard for them as I always have.”

On May 22 the California Secretary of State released the certified list of write-in candidates, confirming that Alanis is the only candidate in the 22nd Assembly District race for both the primary and general election.

During his time in the Assembly, Alanis has successfully passed 19 bills into law, addressing critical issues ranging from public safety and protecting children to supporting agriculture and strengthening communities. This year, he has 12 active bills which are advancing through the legislative process.

Since he was first elected in 2022 and re-elected in 2024, Alanis has snagged millions of dollars for his constituents through “effective casework with state agencies, helping to secure vital grants and funding, and championing key budget projects.”

Even though he is running unopposed, Alanis said he will continue his campaign until November and “keep listening to the voters across the 22nd District, hearing their concerns, and fighting every day for the priorities that matter most to them.”

His most recent campaign finance filings show that Alanis had over $563,000 cash-on-hand and has fundraised over $800,000 in this election year.

He said he remains committed to support policies that lower the cost of living, protect children and “defend the values that define the 22nd District.”

The 22nd District covers a majority of Stanislaus County and parts of Merced County.

He currently serves as the Assembly Republican Caucus Chair and is the vice chairman of the Assembly Committees on Public Safety, and Labor and Employment.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my incredible supporters, whose dedication and belief in our shared vision have made this possible. To my outstanding campaign team and to every member of my legislative team — thank you for your tireless work, commitment, and service on behalf of the people we are honored to represent. Your efforts make a real difference every single day.”
