Community-minded citizens are being asked to consider applying for open positions on two Ceres city panels.

The election of Bret Silveira to the Ceres City Council will create a vacancy on the Ceres Planning Commission this week. Silveira must leave the commission when he is sworn into the Ceres City Council this Thursday.

Members who remain on the commission are Chairwoman Laurie Smith and members Gary Del Nero, Bob Kachel and Dave Johnson.

The Planning Commission is a permanent advisory committee of citizens appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by the City Council. Meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 6 p.m. to consider land use matters such as zone changes, conditional use permits, variances, subdivisions and general plan amendments.

To be eligible for this position, one must be a resident within the city limits of Ceres. This position would be for a four-year term ending Dec. 31, 2024.

Applications are available at Ceres City Hall, 2220 Magnolia Street or by visiting the city’s website at www.ci.ceres.ca.us.

There is also a vacancy on the city’s Measure H Oversight Committee. The five-member Measure H Oversight Committee is responsible for conducting annual reviews of the expenditures made under the half-cent public safety sales tax. Residents of Ceres are encouraged to apply but employees, officials, contractors or vendors of the city cannot apply. The deadline to apply for either vacancy is 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11.

For more information, please contact City Clerk Diane Nayares-Perez at 538-5731 or Administrative Secretary Ann Montgomery at 538-5774.
