Katherine Dennis

November 12, 1942 – November 28, 2023

Katherine Stewart Dennis was born on November 12, 1942, in West Seattle Washington and passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023.

Katherine was born to two loving parents, Ethel, and James Stewart. She was raised with two sisters and two brothers.

After graduating from West Seattle High School, she attended the University of Washington. In the summers she worked at the Olympic National Park on a fire lookout, her companions being a dog and as many books as she could carry in. She loved this job only second to teaching.

Katherine received her teaching credentials only after a lengthy hitchhiking trip throughout Europe. She had the greatest stories and memories and she learned to speak French, all from that trip. She also developed a special regard for her Scottish Heritage.

After a few short-term teaching jobs in Washington and southern California, she would find herself taking a job in a small Central Valley town named Patterson. It was there that a fellow teacher, Richard Rogers, would introduce her to her lifelong partner and husband, Darryl Dennis. They would remain in Patterson for the rest of their lives, raising three children. She taught for 42 years, first at Patterson High School and then Argus High School, in Ceres.

Katherine will be remembered as one of the kindest and most compassionate people to know or work with. She truly cared for people and was genuinely interested in other people’s life stories. She loved to travel the western states, camping, and meeting new people and seeing new places. She was fascinated with history and diverse cultures. In later life, she loved her friends at church and yoga class. She was a soft-spoken hero to many. She was gracious and thankful for the wonderful life she was given to the very end. Above all, she would want to be remembered as the most loving and caring mother and grandmother and passionate teacher, having been a positive force in so many students’ lives over the years.

Katherine Dennis was preceded in death by her husband, Darryl Dennis and is survived by her children, Christopher (Cathy) Dennis, David (Gaea) Dennis, Gail (Jhonee Filmore) Dennis as well as her grandchildren, Katy, Sam, Jagger and Cash.

It was her wish that no services or celebration be held other than to be laid to rest with her loving husband Darryl.

WE LOVE YOU MOM!

In her honor, donations may be sent to: Alexander Cohan Hospice House, 2201 Euclid Ave, Hughson CA 95326.
