Central Valley High School's freshman boys basketball team dropped its first two games of the season.

The Hawks bounced back with a third-place showing at their home tournament last week.

Central Valley (2-3) compiled a 2-1 record.

"We did great," Hawks head coach Carlos Maldonado said. "We improved. It was fun to watch."

All-tournament selection Harinder Sidhu poured in a career-high 25 points, Oso Fregoso tallied 13 and Jaspreet Singh added eight during Central Valley's 71-64 victory over West of Tracy during Friday's third-place game.

Jonathan Barragan contributed seven points.

"They played like we practiced," Maldonado said.

Central Valley lost 66-52 to Beyer on Thursday.

Sidhu scored a team-high 20 points.

Fregoso and Singh totaled 13 and eight points, respectively.

The Hawks pounded the Johansen Vikings 58-34 in the opening round on Wednesday.

Fregoso netted 20 points.

Sidhu and Aundray Peoples chipped in with eight points each.

Peoples buried two 3-pointers.

Sidhu totaled 53 points in three games for the Hawks.

"He stepped up big time," Maldonado said. "We want the ball in his hands when the game's on the line. The other guys respect that."

Central Valley will compete in the Buhach Colony tournament, Dec. 19-21.
