Ceres High races at WAC cluster meet

The members of Ceres High School’s cross country program traveled to Tracy on Sept. 28 to compete at the Western Athletic Conference’s second cluster meet of the season.

The race was staged at Eagal Lake.

“It’s sandy and there’s a lot of turns,” Bulldogs’ head coach Owen Brown said while describing the course. “It can slow you down.”

Ceres High’s varsity girls posted a team score of 67 while finishing in fourth place.

Mountain House (30), Lathrop (52) and Los Banos (65) took first, second and third, respectively.

“We were two points away from third place,” Brown said.

Freshman Brianna Luna led the Bulldogs with a seventh-place showing. 

She completed the 3.2-mile race in 25 minutes, 16 seconds.

Bulldog teammates Evelyn Alavarez (25:36), Jaden Stahl (26:55), Erica Vierra (29:20) and Jelaine Esguerra (33:08) placed 10th, 14th, 21st and 27th, respectively.

Ceres High’s varsity boys (166) finished seventh in the team standings behind Mountain House (37), Beyer (37), Lathrop (103), Grace Davis (119), Pacheco (129) and Johansen (141).

The Bulldogs topped Los Banos (185).

“I’m happy with the performance,” Brown said. “They tried their best.”

Erick Valladares-Ponce led Ceres High with a 22nd-place showing.

He completed the 3.2-mile race in 20 minutes, 32 seconds.

Cesar Bolanos-Aleman (21:01), Reymundo Soto (21:37), Simon Pezzoni (22:01) and Salvador Erenas-Rios (22:37) placed 29th, 39th, 41st and 44th,  respectively.

Ceres High’s junior-varsity boys (50) finished second behind Mountain House (50).

Aaron Lopez led the Bulldogs with an 11th-place showing. He completed the 2.1-mile race in 15 minutes, 56 seconds.

Israel Juarez (16:07), Erik Bonilla (17:04), Atul Julka (18:04) and Leoncio Bautista (18:12) placed 12th, 14th, 17th and 18th, respectively.

Ceres High’s frosh-soph boys (160) bested Grace Davis (165) and Johansen (220) en route to sixth-place finish.

Ivan Rodriguez led the Bulldogs with a 20th-place showing. He completed the 2.1-mile race in 14 minutes, 41 seconds.

Priscilla Ibarra led Ceres High’s junior-varsity girls with a third-place showing.

She completed the 2.1-mile race in 18 minutes, 52 seconds.

Stephanie Espinoza led Ceres High’s frosh-soph girls with a seventh-place showing.

She completed the 2.1-mile race in 17 minutes, 20 seconds.
