Ceres High School's varsity wrestling team topped host Summerville in thrilling fashion, 42-40, on Dec. 9.

Down 40-36, the Bulldogs won the final match of the night to secure the victory.

Sophomore Diego Diaz pinned Sam Burns at the 1:13 mark of the first round during their 170-pound showdown.

"He was able to get the pin," Ceres High head coach Steve Festa said.

Ceres High totaled 42 points on five pins and two forfeits while battling Summerville.

Michael Vargas won by pin (0:34) versus Caylor Thomas in the 113-pound division.

John Alba won by pin (1:05) versus Zachary Marquez at 152 pounds.

Conner Johnson won by pin (1:14) versus Bryan Stanton at 285 pounds.

Brandon Ramirez won by pin (1:17) versus David Munroe at 138 pounds.

Tyler Fleming (106s) and Brian Becerra (120s) both won by forfeit.

Aiden Moore lost by major decision (8-0) to Summerville's Justin McCready at 145 pounds.

Luis Camarillo lost by pin (3:01) to Devin Conklin at 126 pounds.

Gabriel Roman lost by pin (1:33) to Alex Barnes at 132 pounds.

Brian Quintanilla lost by pin (1:03) to Tristan Hudson at 220 pounds.

Jonathan Rodriguez lost by pin (0:50) to Tyler Stoy at 182 pounds.

Adrian Ortiz lost by pin (0:44) to Kenney Warnock at 160 pounds.

Daniel McElwain lost by pin (0:42) to Nathaniel Ulvevadet at 195 pounds.

Moore didn't win his match but only gave up four points. McCready could have earned six points for Summerville.

"If he (Aiden) would have got pinned, it (the dual competition) would have been a tie," Festa said.
