CHS wrestlers win WAC dual versus Patterson, improves to 6-4 on the year

Ceres High School's youth-laden varsity wrestling team competed against Patterson last Wednesday.

The Bulldogs prevailed, 45-33, on senior night at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

"Our aggressiveness made up for what we were lacking in experience and technique," Ceres High head coach Steve Festa said.

The Bulldogs' lineup features 14 wrestlers, including seven freshmen and two newcomers to the sport.

Ceres High won eight individual matches while battling Patterson.

Freshman Luis Camarillo won by pin in the second period over Sean D'Ocampo at 113 pounds.

Freshman Brandon Ramirez won by pin in the second period over Steven Rincon at 120 pounds.

Nick Santibanez won by pin in the second period over Justin Gonzalez at 132 pounds.

Freshman John Alba won by pin in the second period over Jerome Crocket at 152 pounds.

Sophomore Jose Arita won by pin in the second period over Darrius Hunt at 285 pounds.

Freshman Diego Diaz won by pin in the third period over Michael Boschi at 160 pounds.

Junior Abel Morales won by technical fall (18-2) over Francisco Plasencia at 195 pounds.

Junior Daniel Raya won by major decision (13-3) over Keith Gordon at 138 pounds.

Freshman Aiden Moore lost by decision (12-6) to Jordan Canseco at 126 pounds.

Sophomore Cameron Thatcher lost by pin in the second period to Manuel Cruz at 145 pounds.

Freshman Tyler Cazares lost by pin in the second period to Michael Vazquez at 220 pounds.

Freshman Michael Vargas lost by pin in the first period to Adrian Luna at 106 pounds.

Newcomer Brian Quintanilla lost by pin in the first period to Simon Perez at 170 pounds.

Newcomer Jonathan Rodrigues lost by pin in the first period to Jerry Arredondo at 182 pounds.

Santibanez, Ceres High's lone senior, was recognized prior to the start of the WAC dual.

Nick started wrestling for the Bulldogs as a sophomore.

"He's beat three state qualifiers this year," Festa said.

The Bulldogs improved to 6-4 on the year and 2-1 in the WAC.

The Tigers dropped to 2-2 in the conference-dual standings.

"We've never had a losing record the last nine years," Festa said. "We're continuing our winning ways. We still have more work to do."

Ceres High will host crosstown-rival Central Valley this Thursday at 6 p.m.
