• Bullying in Ceres heartbreaking

I have children in the Ceres district. I have found this year to be very hard for many children due to bullying. My son is a preschooler and he has been bullied by three different boys at school. Most of the time his teacher hasn't known anything about the marks on his arms or face except the day I picked him up with a black eye. My preschooler was beat up at school and he now has nightmares about it. It is sad to know that three- and four-year-olds are being bullied or are being bullies. Being bullied is rough part of being in school but for it to start in preschool, that is heartbreaking!

• Pointed questions for air board's Vierra

Dear mayor, please address these facts at your next air board meeting.

1). Openly display in this newspaper what your total yearly budget is.

2). One large volcano emits more constant gasses into the atmosphere than all of mankind.

3). Couldn't we replace your bureaucracy with 100 air quality measurement signs?

Finally when you close our factories and refrigeration facilities, where are the tax dollars going to come to fund your unneeded bureaucracy?

• Trashy parking lots are a concern

I'm commenting on the little comment on "The market is just catering to demand." I have to agree. I'm not sure what she was referring to prior to this comment but I agree with this individual. It also concerns me that we have enough Mexican markets in this area and that doesn't bother me because I'm a Mexican. The thing is if you look at the parking lots of all these stores and just look at the trash and how horrible these areas look and look how nice the Richland Market area looks and it will be just a matter of time before that starts looking the same as the other ones. Don't take my word for it - just check it out.

• No Spanish should be spoken in USA

I'm just reading the "Sound Off!" and I can't believe "We should all just learn Spanish." This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen but this is the way they're feeling, that they're entitled to be able to speak anything but English. We speak English. These people need to tell the Mexican-American people to speak English. We're not going to learn Spanish just because they think this is a good thing. They need to learn to speak English because it's the right thing to do.

And if we lived in Mexico, ask how many of them there is going to speak English.

If I had children right now in school, I would insist that they speak no Spanish.

• Immigrants need to adjust, not natives

I'm calling in response to the person "We should all just learn Spanish." Shoot, it's so wrong. I was born and raised in this country and out of work for three years. I went to school to become a medical assistant and can't find a job because they all require your to be bilingual. Why should I have to learn another country's language in my country to find a job? That's wrong. They need to learn English then they come over here. My grandparents immigrated from Portugal and they didn't speak a word of English when they did but they learned. And they spoke perfect English when I was born and when I knew them. It is possible.

I shouldn't be the one to adjust. They need to.
