A Ceres Unified School District teacher living in Turlock was removed from his job after his arrest for lewd and lascivious acts with a female student. Beale had been employed as a math teacher at Whitmore Charter High School since August but was terminated this week.

Matthew Beale, 24, was arrested by Ceres Police detectives on Wednesday after a parent discovered that her 16-year-old daughter received inappropriate and explicit text messages on her cell phone from Beale over the weekend. The mother reported the matter to CUSD officials on Tuesday who immediately placed Beale on leave and reported the incident to the Ceres Police School Resource Officer. After a quick investigation Beale was released from his position.

Detectives discovered the female Advanced Placement (AP) math student and teacher had traded hundreds of text, among them a request from Beale for the girl to send him "sexy" pictures of herself. Detectives said Beale electronically sent the girl a photograph of his genitals.

Police said Beale and the female student allegedly met in his classroom on Monday during lunch time to "make out." Detectives contacted Beale at his home in Turlock, where he admitted to his involvement with the student after being confronted with copies of the text messages. He was arrested for sending harmful matter to minor and lewd and lascivious acts on a minor¬ - both misdemeanors. Beale was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail.

Detectives believe the relationship was an isolated incident but are asking anyone with information in the case to contact Detective Arthur Hively at 538-5728.

Beale attended Osborne Elementary and graduated from Pitman High School. He obtained his teaching credential in May.
