Bicyclist flees police because of arrest warrant
Albert Gil suspect
Albert Gil

A Modesto man wanted by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department for drug violations was arrested by Ceres Police after he tried to escape them while riding his bicycle last week.

At 9:55 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 Officer Matt Myers attempted to stop bicyclist Albert Gil 56, near Hatch Road and Central Avenue after watching him ride westbound against the flow of traffic and then north across all lanes of Hatch Road. Myers followed Gil into the CVS parking lot and west onto the bike path that parallels the Ceres Main Canal. Officer Myers drove to Stonum and Hatch roads to wait for Gil but the wanted man stopped short of Stonum Road and fled eastbound while shedding his reflective vest. Myers got back into his patrol car and caught up to Gil as he rode into the CVS parking lot and onto northbound Central Avenue.

Gil stopped in the 1300 block of Central Avenue where K9 Officer Jesus Salinas and Veko arrived to assist. Myers arrested Gil who said ran because of an arrest warrant for drugs. He was booked for the warrant and resisting arrest.
