City receives four applications for Planning Commission appointment
Four apply CPC

One Ceres Planning Commission term that will expire at year’s end has drawn the interest of four Ceres residents.

City Clerk Fallon Martin at Monday’s Ceres City Council meeting asked if the panel would be interviewing the applicants at a public meeting or by a subcommittee and forward a recommendation to the council as a whole.

Both Councilwomen Cerina Otero and Rosalinda Vierra said they preferred interviews at a public council meeting. Otero asked if perhaps the council would need to wait to consider filling a second vacancy expected after Jan. 1 since either Gary M. Condit or Dorie Perez will be leaving the commission depending on the outcome of the District 1 council election. Both are members of the commission and the winner will need to resign to take the council seat. Mayor Javier Lopez said the city is only considering appointing the single forthcoming vacancy at the present time.

Casey and Lopez agreed to the open interviews.

The term of Bob Gobble is expiring. He was appointed to the commission by the council in January to fill the unexpired term of Ishwar Gil who suddenly resigned in November 2025. The term ends on Dec. 31.

Besides Gobble, others serving on the commission are Condit, Perez, Francisco Mireles and R.J. Jammu.
