Dot Foods Modesto Distribution Center workers made the short walk to the company’s newly-opened Family Health Center at 2316 Nickerson Drive Suite B for a ribbon-cutting ceremony staged at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

In partnership with Premise Health, Dot is providing convenient access to primary care and preventive services to 400 people, including employees, their spouses and dependent children.

“The opening of our Family Health Center is great news for our employees and their family members,” said David Bigelow, general manager of the Modesto distribution center. “We’ve been working toward this for more than a year, and our employees are really grateful that we’re the latest Dot location to get a Family Health Center. The services offered and the relationships our providers establish with our employees really set a new standard of personalized care.”

Employees may use the 1,400-square-foot Family Health Center, with its two exam rooms, testing lab and waiting area, as their primary care provider. Annual physicals, wellness screenings, commercial driver’s license certification, lab work, flu vaccines and generic prescriptions will also be offered at little or no cost to employees and their families.

The clinic will also provide condition management and education for high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and more.

“Taking care of our employees and their loved ones is among the most important work we do. We’re a family business. And from day one, our co-founders Robert and Dorothy Tracy wanted to treat their employees like family. Our best-in-class benefits package is one of the ways we do that.”

“Taking care of our employees and their loved ones is among the most important work we do,” said Matt Holt, Dot’s vice president of human resources. “We’re a family business. “I’m excited,” said Sergio Morales, director of warehousing for Modesto Dot Foods. “My family and I recently switched over to the plan. Everybody is signed up. If there is a need, we’ll come here first. It literally takes me just two minutes to walk over. It’s convenient.”

The Dot Foods Modesto Family Health Center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate employees’ varying schedules.

Dot opened its first family health center at its Georgia site in 2013, and has since added facilities in California (Modesto), Indiana (Cambridge City), Idaho (Burley), Oklahoma (Ardmore) and Illinois (Mt. Sterling).

The company plans to establish similar clinics at all its U.S. locations in the next two years.

“Our health and well-being is an incredibly important part of all our lives,” Holt said. “Our goal with these family health center facilities is to make sure the people on our health plan can access high-quality, personalized, affordable healthcare services. Many standard services are free when employees visit the Family Health Center, and if there is a cost it’s usually very low. Employees are able to use money from their health savings account or payroll deduction to cover the bill.”

Dot Foods is the largest food industry redistributor in North America. It carries 125,000 products from 1,000 food industry manufacturers.

The Modesto distribution center opened in 1995.
