Residents in the area may take advantage of a free trash disposal site offered Saturday, June 20 at the Central Valley High School parking lot, 4033 Central Ave.
The collection will run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and allow residents to dispose of trash and refuse items at a temporary collection operation inside the main parking lot.
Items that may be taken to the site this Saturday include discarded furniture, couches, barbecue grills, metal, wood as well as trash. All loose trash must be bagged.
This is a collection event organized by Supervisor Channce A. Condit within his District 5.
“Clean ups like this help cut down on illegal dumps and give residents an opportunity to clean up their communities,” said Condit.
Unlike past events where folks had to prove they were residents of the unincorporated area of District 5, IDs will not be checked to ascertain where those dumping off items actually reside.
The site will NOT accept explosives (including fireworks), automotive fluids like waste oil, anti-freeze, lead-acid batteries, brake fluids and Freon; paint, flammable liquids, waste tires, car or household batteries, sealed 55-gallon drums, items containing asbestos, refrigerators, copiers, dead animal or fluorescent light tubes.
However, residents may take hazardous waste to the county’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection site on Fridays and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, excluding major holidays. The county operates the drive-thru collection operation at County Center IV, 1710 Morgan Road, just south of Hatch Road and west of Highway 99. The county’s Morgan Road site accepts motor oil, pesticides and herbicides, paints and thinners, drain cleaners, pool chemicals, chemical cleaners, fertilizers and batteries. Household hazardous waste and electronic waste are collected free of charge to county residents.
Common E-Waste material accepted include scanners, cell phones, alarm clocks, TVs, VCRs, stereos, computers, computer monitors, keyboards, computer mice, printers, fax machines and fluorescent tubes. Refrigerators, stoves and dishwashers are not considered E-Waste.
