Man killed in Sunday morning crash on Crows Landing Road
Crows landing fatality
The driver of the Chevy pickup at left escaped injury but the driver of a Corolla died.

A motorist was killed Sunday morning at a two-vehicle crash just outside of the El Rematito Flea Market on Crows Landing Road.

The crash took place at approximately 10:06 a.m. Shortly after a call to 9-1-1 was placed, Ceres Police officers rushed to the intersection of Crows Landing and Hackett Road where a white 1997 Chevy Silverado pickup and a tan 2003 Toyota Corolla were crashed at the northwest corner. The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, Heliodoro Perez, 62, of Modesto, was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Two occupants of the Chevy pickup were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They were identified as driver Jose Sanchez, 43, of Modesto, and passenger Roberto Sanchez, 39, of Palo Alto.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Coley said it was determined that Perez was attempting to cross Crows Landing Road in a westward direction on Hackett Road when he collided with the southbound pickup. It’s unknown how the wreckage ended up at the northwest corner of the intersection or which party was the cause of the crash.

Because of the circumstances of the crash, CPD’s Traffic Unit was called in to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation as to the cause.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or with information on the collision, is urged to call Officer Ortiz at 538-5678.
