The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian who sustained fatal injuries while being struck by a vehicle on Oct. 28 as Giovani Gomez, 23, of Ceres.

Gomez was walking on Service Road west of Esmar Road at approximately 7:05 p.m. when he was struck by a westbound pickup driven by Ricky Nail Jr., 39, of Ripon. Nail was unable to see Gomez until it was too late.

Nail pulled over to the shoulder and called 9-1-1 for help.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported Gomez to Doctors Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

It is undetermined at this time if alcohol and or drugs were a factor in the collision.
