A solo early Friday morning crash on Roeding Road took the life of a 27-year-old female driver.

Police arrived on scene at 12:11 a.m. after receiving a report about a rollover in the 2900 block of Roeding Road. Police say the woman was driving westbound when she lost control and the car flipped over several times in a dirt field south of Roeding Road and west of Mitchell Road. The driver was ejected into the field with major injuries. Attempts to resuscitate her failed and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

It took several officers to detain an emotionally distraught man whose involvement in the collision was unknown at the time. After a brief struggle with officers, he was detained, questioned, and later released with no charges filed.

Mitchell Road was closed between Don Pedro Road and Whitmore Avenue and Roeding Road was closed between Mitchell Road and Vernal while the Ceres Police Traffic Unit was conducted the traffic collision investigation until 6 a.m.

The victim has been identified but her name is not being released at this time pending notification of her family.
