A fight broke out at a party in Hughson early Sunday, resulting in the fatal stabbing of a teenager from Modesto and a manhunt launched by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

Demetrius Martinez, 18, of Modesto, died as a result of stab wounds sustained in an altercation in the 2000 block of Third Street in Hughson. At least two others were stabbed.

The Sheriff's Department was called at 12:20 a.m. Sunday about a family at a private residence.

Friends of the mortally wounded teen loaded him up into a car and drove him to the 800 block of Scenic Road in Modesto in a vain attempt to find medical treatment. By the time officers arrived, Martinez had died.

Sheriff's detectives have interviewed witnesses and others at the house and reported all were cooperative. No arrests had been made as of press time.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the case is urged to contact Detective Ken Hedrick at (209) 567-7083.
