Sheriff's detectives arrested the parents of a 16-month-old late Monday after a weeklong investigation into the death of the boy.
Andrew Paffendorf was pronounced dead on Tuesday, Dec. 2 when the fire department and emergency medical teams responded to the 3600 block of Crows Landing Road for a report of a child not breathing. Suspicions were high when deputies arrived at the house, which is located across from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department headquarters. The boy's body bore a number of injuries.
The child was transported to a local hospital, but was dead on arrival.
Andrew Paffendorf, 22, of Modesto, was charged with murder and assault on a child causing great bodily injury or death. He was being held at the men's jail with a no bail hold. The baby's mother, Alicia Paffendorf, 22, was charged with causing willful harm to a child and is being held at the Public Safety Center with a bail of $25,000.
The arrests came after an autopsy determined that the child died from blunt force trauma.
