Pedestrian killed

A woman was killed Tuesday evening, Feb. 3 when a car slammed into her as she was walking along the 1900 block of Rockefeller Drive. Police believe that the responsible driver was under the influence of prescription medication.

Penny Hinckley, 47, died from injuries sustained in the 8:37 p.m. collision. Ceres Police said that Hinckley was a pushing a shopping cart down the industrial center on Ceres' west side when she was struck by the vehicle. She later died at the hospital of major injuries.

Jimmy Lee Dickinson, 33, told police that he had taken a Vicodin for a sore tooth that he had prescribed by a dentist and was driving home from a friend's house when he fell alseep at the wheel. Officers believed Dickinson to be under the influence, particularly since he was unable to pass a field sobriety test. The driver was taken to Doctors Medical Center where he consented to a blood draw.

He was charged with felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter with a $100,000 bail.
