Anthony Fontana Sr.
A Celebration of Life was held Saturday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Anthony "Tony" Fontana, Sr., 89, of Hughson. He died Aug. 23, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center following a brief illness.
Tony was born July 28, 1919 in Manteca, to Frank Fontana and Mary Lombardo Fontana who immigrated from Erice, Trapani, Sicily. In 1924 they settled in Modesto on a ranch on Grayson Road where Tony helped his family farm for many years. On Nov. 14, 1948 Tony married Mary DiBona and moved to Hughson. Together they bought a ranch and farmed and raised their four children. He retired from farming in 1983, but purchased Bottle N Cork Liquors working for 10 more years. Mr. Fontana enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary Fontana of Hughson; his children, Dr. Frank Fontana, Margaret Warner, Anthony Fontana, all of Hughson, and Larry Fontana of Waterford; his brother, Joe Fontana of Modesto; two sisters, Antonitte Green of Modesto and Anita Hampsten of Oregon; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
