A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at Lakewood Memorial Park for Betty Sullivan, 87. The former Ceres resident died Jan. 26, 2010 at her daughter's home in Harbor, Ore.

Born March 3, 1922 in Henryetta, Okla., to James and Willie (Griffen) Futrell, Betty moved to Oregon and then to California at a young age. She worked as a welder in the shipyards during World War II. Betty lived in Ceres many years. She married Arlon Elliott in 1939 and they had two daughters, Barbara and Judy. The marriage ended in divorce but Betty later married Gerald "Jerry" Sullivan. She and Jerry owned a restaurant and bar in Grover City until Jerry was killed in a car accident in 1966. Toward the end of her career she worked at Moore's Business Forms. She moved to Grants Pass, Ore., three years ago to live with daughter Judy. Mrs. Sullivan enjoyed swimming and walking every day. She also enjoyed camping with her family and was active in her church.

She leaves behind her children, Barbara Melton of Fresno, Judy Haer of Grants Pass, Ore., and Patrick Sullivan of Hughson; her grandchildren, Mike Melton, Michelle Melton, Lori Attaway, James Haer, Randy Sullivan, Quinlan Sullivan and McKenna Sullivan; and seven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by son Mark, grandsons Randy and Steve Richards and brother Leroy Futrell.
