A funeral service was held Tuesday at Turlock Funeral Home for Beverly Jean Fonda, 74, of Turlock. The former Ceres resident died unexpectedly at home on July 18, 2011.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

April 24, 1937 in Grand Rapids Michigan to Katherine and Glenn Ryder, Beverly was the oldest of three children. Beverly accepted Jesus as her savior at age 6 and was baptized at age 13. She played the violin, piano, and the French horn. She also had a lovely singing voice. Beverly and her family moved to California in 1948 and they settled in the Modesto/Ceres area. In 1952 she moved to Ceres and graduated from Ceres High School. Beverly married Edwin Fonda on Dec. 17, 1955. Two years later they started a family by welcoming four sons and a daughter in seven years. Mrs. Fonda worked for the Modesto City Schools until her retirement. She also started the "We Care" Singles Ministry in 1979.

She leaves behind her five children Donald Fonda and Doreen Rutherford, both of Modesto, David Fonda of Ceres, Douglas Fonda of Lodi, and Daniel Fonda of Modesto; her brother, Richard Ryder of Turlock; her sister, Lois Shearer of Banks, Ore.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by father Glenn Ryder and mother Katherine Ryder.
