A service was held Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Lakewood Funeral Home for Charles Edward Ferguson, 83, of Modesto. The former Ceres resident died Dec. 31, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 9, 1924 in in Waldron, Ark., Mr. Ferguson lived in Ceres from 1963 to the early 1970s when he moved to the area between Ceres and Hughson. He owned and operated the Ferguson Chevron station at Central and Caswell in the 1960s. Mr. Ferguson enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking, steering a boat for water skiers, being in the mountains and anything else involving the outdoors. He loved to build and was great carpenter and a great auto mechanic too. He retired from the city of Modesto's mechanic shop.

Charles just celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary in June.

He leaves behind his wife, Doris Ferguson of Modesto; his daughters, Susan Farris of Modesto, Wanda Birdsong of Hughson, Lorann Krippene of Ripon, Kenneth Ferguson of Riverbank; his brother, Henry Ferguson of Springfield, Ore.; and 16 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.
