Edward G. Hargrove

Private funeral services were held for Edward Glenn Hargrove, 78, of Modesto. He died Dec. 8, 2009 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson after a long illness.

Born March 10, 1931 in Texas, Ed moved to Ripon at the age of 3. He graduated from Ripon High School and then entered the Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of sergeant. After leaving the Marines, he graduated from University of the Pacific in Stockton and obtained a Master's degree in Education from California State University Stanislaus. He started teaching in Modesto at Orville Wright School where he met his future wife Lorene. He left teaching to work for United Airlines for six years both in Modesto and San Francisco. He returned to Modesto to resume his teaching career at Westport Elementary School in Ceres. He also taught at Walter White Elementary School and Mae Hensley Junior in Ceres. He was principal of Emily J. Ross Junior High School in Hughson. Ed changed careers again by opening the Pizza Pub restaurant in Modesto with his wife and sons for 21 years. He retired in 2002.

He leaves behind two sons, Edward Hargrove and Geoff Hargrove, both of Modesto; three sisters, Pauline Garcia of Pinole, Freda Schut of Ripon and Maryellen Zellmer of Woodfords; and two granddaughters, Talia Hargrove and Marissa Hargrove, both of Modesto. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Eva Lorene Hargrove.
