The rosary and Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson for Eugene Joseph McCarthy, 83, of Hughson. He died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella. Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Born March 5, 1921, Mr. McCarthy was a native of San Francisco and lived in Hughson since 2003. He previously lived in Modesto from 1925-2003. Mr. McCarthy was a farmer and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Hughson.
He leaves behind his wife, Ida M. McCarthy of Hughson; four children, Edward G. McCarthy of Auburn, Thomas C. McCarthy of Parker, Colo., Jeffrey A. McCarthy of San Francisco and Kathleen S. McCarthy of Modesto; his sister, Mary Kirien of Novato; and four grandchildren and one step-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul J. McCarthy; two brothers; and one sister.
