A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Ceres for James Wayne Cole 63, of Athens, Tenn. The former Ceres residents died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 at his home.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto.

Born June 5, 1941, Mr. Cole was a native of Modesto and had lived in Athens since March. He previously lived in Ceres. Mr. Cole was a plastering contractor from 1957-93 and also was a minister for 41 years. He pastored at the Full Gospel Church in Athens. Mr. Cole enjoyed gardening and playing the guitar.

He leaves behind his wife, Dorene Cole of Athens; three children, Michael Wayne Cole Sr. and Richard Glen Cole, both of Modesto, and Ronald Eugene Cole of Ceres; five brothers, Herbert Cecil Cole Jr. of Modesto, Johnny Ray Cole of Apache Junction, Ariz., Jerry Douglas Cole, and Timothy Lloyd Cole, both of Ceres, and Harvey Duane Cole of Athens; four sisters, Betty Jean Rice of Bakersfield, Bonnie Darlene Costello of Ceres, Janice Rose McEwen of Azalea, Ore., and Judy Corales Hall of Athens; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ruby Cole; one brother; and three sisters.
