A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Hughson High School gymnasium for Joseph Bradley Phillips, 19, of Hughson. He died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004 in Barstow.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service.

Born May 10, 1985, Mr. Phillips was a native of Modesto and lived in Hughson for 14 years. He previously lived in Modesto for five years. Mr. Phillips worked in the hardware department of Home Depot in Turlock for one year. He graduated from Hughson High School, where he was involved in school drama, football, wrestling, baseball and jazz programs. He also participated in the city of Hughson's swimming program, and attended Hickman Community Church College Group. Joseph was in a band and played drums, guitar and piano. He enjoyed practical jokes. He had the lead of Conrad Birdie in the high school production of "Bye Bye Birdie," played Pharoah in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat" and was the scarecrow in "Wizard of Oz."

He leaves behind his parents, Roger Phillips of Hughson and Tonja Galentine of Escalon; two brothers, Andy Phillips and Nick Phillips, both of Hughson; and his grandparents, Imogene Brooks of Oklahoma and Doyle and Susan Henry of Oakdale.
