Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Church in Sonora for Julius E. Dias, 87, of Jamestown. The former Ceres resident died June 27, 2009 at his home.

Burial will follow the service under the direction of Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora.

Born April 11, 1922 in Modesto to Emily and Joseph Dias, Julius attended Jennings Elementary School and graduated from Ceres High School in 1939 with honors. Mr. Dias graduated from Modesto Junior College and the University of California, Berkeley. He served in the Army and retired from Southern Pacific Railroad in San Francisco. He joined the Army Reserves and retired with the rank of Colonel. Upon his retirement, Julius married Marilyn Hammond. He enjoyed traveling and enjoyed many trips around the world. Mr. Dias was active in the Elks Club in Jamestown and belonged to the IDES and UPEC Fraternal Lodges in Modesto.

He leaves three daughters, Marianne Dias of Santa Rosa, Teresa Tierney of Berkeley and Perri Kimono of Los Angeles; his sister, Mary Ann Russell of Fremont; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
