Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Lakewood Funeral Home for Kay Marie Clawson Byers, 69, of Turlock. She died Nov. 3, 2010 in her son's home after a long battle with dementia.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood Funeral Chapel followed by a reception at the Hughson Senior Center.

Born Nov. 27, 1940 in Dearborn, Mich., to the late Betty and the late William "Bill" Clawson, Kay was the oldest of three children. She was married to the late Jon L. Byers for 40 years. As an Air Force wife, she lived in the Philippines. As a civilian, she lived in Denver, Colo., and El Cerrito, before settling in Modesto in 1978. Once settled she began working for Keyes School as an administrator and worked there for 24 years. Mrs. Byers enjoyed music and sang opera in her younger years and continued singing in her church choirs throughout her life. She also became a deacon at her church with her husband Jon, both devout Christians.

She leaves behind her children, Douglas Byers and Kristen; and five grandchildren.
