A funeral service was held Monday at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon for Lewis Clemith Sims, 79, of Ceres. He died of natural causes on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

Interment was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 25, 1925 in Shreveport, La., Mr. Sims was a Ceres resident for 49 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1962 and worked briefly for Campbell Soup. Mr. Sims then worked at the Tracy Defense Depot and retired. With his son Robert he worked at Central Valley Propellers in Ceres. Mr. Sims enjoyed playing softball, fishing and gardening.

He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Juanita Delores Sims of Ceres; four children, Lewis Clemith Sims and Robert Gerald Sims, both of Ceres, Virginia Lee Wilson of Grants Pass, Ore., and Sharon Elaine De Vries of Oakdale; his brother, Ned Sims of Houston, Texas; and 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
