A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Mamie Meeks-Maines, 90, of Modesto. She died recently at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born in March of 1919 in Childers Hill, Tenn., Mamie was one of 10 siblings. She moved to Modesto in 1945 and worked for Campbell Soup for many years. She retired in 1975. Mrs. Meeks-Maines enjoyed cooking chicken and dumplings, and chocolate gravy, and enjoyed shopping, laughing, and visiting with her family and friends. Mamie lost her first husband, Leven Meeks, in 1986 after 50 years of marriage. She re-married in 1991 to Mark Maines, who died in 2000.

She leaves behind her children, Gilbert Meeks of Denair, Don Meeks of Wister, Okla., and Linda Greenwood of Ceres; and 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, four brothers, a sister, two great-grandchildren and her first son.
