A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Margaret Mauldin, 82, of Ceres. She died March 12, 2008.

A service will also take place Saturday in Pickens, S.C.

Born April 10, 1925, Mrs. Mauldin was a native of Pickens and lived in various places in her lifetime, such as France, Germany, Key West, Fla., and Liberal, Kan., as her husband was a professional baseball player and an Air Force loadmaster. They moved from Travis Air Force Base near Vacaville in 1989 to retire in Ceres to be closer to a son and daughter. She enjoyed visiting Lake Tahoe and Stinson Beach, Cannon Beach, Ore., and Lake Jocassie, S.C. Mrs. Mauldin was an avid gardener, reader and fan of late night radio talk shows.

Mrs. Mauldin was an elementary school teacher in Vacaville before moving to Ceres. She enjoyed volunteering in her daughter's classroom at Caswell Elementary School and participating in YWCA activities. After raising her children Mrs. Mauldin attended Sacramento State University and earned her teaching credential at age 40. She graduated from college the same night her daughter graduated from high school.

She leaves behind her three children, Robert Mauldin and Kitty Herrick, both of Modesto, and Tom Mauldin of Oregon; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchilden. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Mason Mauldin, her parents, a brother and a sister.
