A funeral service was held Saturday the McHenry Chapel of Franklin and Downs for Marian Ruth Lichty, 92, of Modesto. She died Sept. 7, 2008 at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital with family at her side.
Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Lichty was born Feb. 24, 1916 in Santa Monica, to Howard and Ruth Davenport. She received her education in Santa Monica. In 1933 she married and bore daughters Valerie Jeanne and JoAnne Ruth. She was married in 1943 to Alvin Charles Lichty and had a third child, Alvin Howard. The family relocated to Northern California in 1945 and resided in Ceres, Escalon, Gustine and Newman. While in Newman, the Lichty's welcomed into their family, teenager Filomena Freitas as their third daughter.
After moving to Modesto in 1962, Marian pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She entered into the nursing program at Modesto Junior College and worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Doctors Medical Center and then Gould Medical Group where she was a pediatric nurse for Dr. Douglas Chadwick. After retiring, Mrs. Lichty was a volunteer at Modesto Covenant Church, the Modesto Gospel Mission and Interfaith Ministries. She enjoyed oil painting, reading, gardening, playing the piano and organ, participating in a senior tap dance troupe and aerobics. Marian was a member of Modesto Covenant Church and past leader in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.
She leaves behind her children, Valerie Anderson of Sacramento, Joanne Urton of Modesto, Filomena Pacheco of Soquel, and Alvin H. Lichty of Modesto; grandsons, David Anderson, George Howard, Robert Pacheco; and 10 granddaughters, 36 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin and brother Howard.
