Funeral services were held on Monday at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Ruby Dean Smith, 78, of Ceres. She died Jan. 29, 2008 at her home which her parents once owned starting in 1942.

Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park.

Born Aug. 3, 1929, Mrs. Smith was a native of Iberia, Mo., and moved to Ceres with her parents and sisters in 1942. She was a Ceres High School graduate of 1947. Ruby was loved by everyone who met her. She loved life and was totally devoted to her children and family. She loved to sew and quilt and had a gift for crafts, and was known to have a booth at the Ceres Street Faire. She also loved to play darts and was in several dart leagues.

Mrs. Smith leaves behind three children, Delayne Mendence, Jill Smith and Paul Smith, all of Ceres; four sisters, Marguerite Stone of Branson, Mo., Helen Koshy of Ceres, Hazel Evans of Olney, Md., and Betty Deaver of Americas, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jason Mendence of Oakdale, Joy Mendence Dorr of Modesto, and Cody Sexton of Ceres; and one great-granddaughter, Jacy Dorr of Modesto. She was preceded in death by parents W.C. and Gertrude Brumley, her sisters, Fay Schulte and Alice Hedgecock and first husband, Benny Robinson.
