William "Bill" Baba Sr.

A graveside service was held Thursday at Turlock Memorial Park for William "Bill" Baba Sr., 87, of Turlock. He died May 17, 2009 in Turlock.

Born Aug. 30, 1921 to Alex and Barbara Baba in Middleberg, in Middleberg, N.Y., Bill grew up on a farm in Flemington, N.J. In 1943 he enlisted in the Army and joined the 187th Paratrooper Glider Infantry where he was awarded two bronze medals. After serving his country, he came to Turlock in 1945 and married Betty Lee on Sept. 15, 1946. Mr. Baba worked as a butcher for Richland Market until his retirement.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Betty Baba of Turlock; his children, William Baba Jr. and Shirley Baba Green; his twin brother, Frank Baba; his sister, Dorothy Merrit; four grandchildren, Kim Gibson, Shay Wilson, Shelly Fulton and Brandon Baba; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Anna and brother Alex Baba Jr.
