Funeral services were held at the El Vista Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Lela Mae Schofield Neilson, 78, of Modesto. She died May 21, 2008 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson following a brief illness.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born March 28, 1930, Mrs. Neilson was a native of Bountiful, Utah, born to Leo and Ida Schofield. The second of six children, Lela grew up in Utah, Idaho and Nevada, and moved to Modesto when she was in her teens. She was a resident of Modesto for nearly 60 years. She married Stuart M. Neilson in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 7, 1949. She assisted her husband in the creation of Stuart's Fine Furniture in Ceres in 1961. Mrs. Neilson was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed painting, sculpting, playing the violin. Lela also enjoyed cooking, acting, reading and improving her mind. Lela's life was centered on her family and service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She leaves behind her husband of 59 years, Stuart M. Neilson of Modesto; her four children, Della Neilson, Katherine Heffner, Keith Neilson and David Neilson; two sisters, Freda Paradee and Nada Goldstein; two brothers, Leo Schofield and Dallas Schofield; and 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Leo and Ida Schofield, and brother Anson Schofield.
