Ceres High's Gordon Brogdon refused to let a couple of injuries keep him out of the water in Ceres on Friday. The senior swimmer injured his right elbow and shoulder at practice and missed his team's first meet--a 108-66 loss to Golden Valley.

"I had to comeback," said Brogdon, who will be examined by a specialist this week. "I can't let my team down."

Brogdon placed first in two individual races and helped the Bulldogs win two relay events.

"Gordon is a fierce competitor," said Ceres coach Sue Garcia. "It killed him last week when he had to stand on the pool deck."

Brogdon didn't practice much during the week leading up to the CCC contest.

"I've been out of the water since last Friday," Brogdon said. "I had two days of practice."

Led by Brogdon, Eric Scudder, Jarrett Mills, J.C. Reed and Jason Weststeyn, Ceres defeated Downey 122-56.

The Bulldogs improved to 1-1 in the Central California Conference standings. The Knights fell to 0-2 in the CCC.

"This is a good starting point for us," Garcia said.
